BASF Polska is one of the big names that come to mind when we think about our bilateral economic relations. Your company is an essential player in this field and it’s a big success story. With nearly 800 Million Euro in sales and more than 800 employees you contribute importantly to these relations. I’m sure that the planned extension of the production of catalysts in Sroda Slaska will add to this success.
When we look at our economic relations, the figures speak for themselves. Bilateral trade amounted to more than 100 Billion Euro in 2016. Germany heads the list of foreign direct investment in Poland with more than 27 Billion Euro. Over the years, these investments have led to the creation of more than 300.000 jobs in Poland. These investments in mind or in capital and the transfer of skills and knowledge contributed importantly to the solid fundament for our bilateral relations. And it is important to mention this in times when a heavy wind blows through the treetops of our societies. Our fundaments are good!
Of course there are at least two other elements that are key to the success of our economic relationship. First, Poland’s impressive economic development during the last 25 years on which I would like to congratulate you on. Many Polish entrepreneurs have – alone or with partners from outside – taken up the opportunity that a free and open market and the solidarity mechanisms of the EU offer. We are happy to witness the growing number of investments of Polish capital in Germany.
German and Polish entrepreneurs are preparing for new challenges ahead of us. Intensifying globalization, an ever fiercer competition, digitization and Industry 4.0 are some of the phenomena that will hopefully lead to future successes.
Poland as this year’s partner country of the Hannover Messe has shown the industrial potential to take up the new challenges. BASF, as I know, is ready to support these endeavors.
I wish BASF Polska and its partners a successful continuation of their activities and cooperation in Poland for the benefit of our economies, but also for our bilateral relations.
